BIBLE PASSAGE – Luke 24.44-53

He said to them, ‘This is what I told you while I was still with you: everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.’

Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, ‘This is what is written: the Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.’

When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven. Then they worshipped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.

Let’s jump around Matthew 8 and 9 a bit for this small group as we need to look at different situations Jesus found himself in. We’ll divide the Bible verses into 2 sections that you can look at. Write a brief description of what happened in each passage:

When you’ve done with the descriptions we’re going to take a look at the way people related to and with Jesus

QUESTION

What is the difference between the 2 sections in relation to the way people related to Jesus and the way Jesus related to people?

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

ANSWER

The difference is between SEEING and BEING SEEN.

In Section 1, all the examples are of people bringing others or themselves to Jesus. In Section 2, we find Jesus sees other people and goes to them.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

There are going to be times where people see you. You may not be aware of it. For example, as a youth worker and schools worker, I know I am ‘seen’ by young people in town even though I may not see them. Other times I see young people in town and go and speak to them.

What is important is your witness, your lifestyle. Imagine a typical month in your life. What kinds of things have you done (as a Christian) that others may have seen, that is not good stuff?

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Now think about seeing and being seen. Pray that you will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit to know the times you need to go and speak to people. Is there a situation you know of where you should have spoken to someone or that you think you should. Write about it, maybe plan it, talk to others in the group about it..
