EARTH FACT

If the Earth were smaller or larger than it is it would not be able to sustain an atmosphere we could breathe.
– If it were closer to the sun we would fry.
– If it were further away we would freeze.
– If the moon was nearer, the ozone layer thinner, the planet was tilted at a different angle – it would spell disaster for our planet

If the thickness of a piece of paper is the distance from the earth to the sun (150 million kilometres) then:

– the edge of our universe would be a 50 million mile of paper
– the diameter of our own galaxy (100,000 light years) would be a 500km stack
– The distance to the nearest star in our galaxy would be a 22 metre stack of paper

Our galaxy is a family of more than 100 billion stars and there are as many as 100 billion other galaxies in the universe. Each of these galaxies may have hundreds of millions of planets like ours!

THE BIG BANG

The chances of the Big Bang happening, of the right raw materials of life just occurring and for them to actually be in the same place at the same time is a staggering 1 in 10 to the power of 301. Some Scientists say it could be as high as 1 in 10 to the power of 600.

A well-respected British scientist (Sir Fred Hoyle) has stated that the chances of the world simply forming by itself from a cosmic accident would be the same as a tornado smashing into a junk yard and perfectly assembling the inside and outside of a Boeing 747 plane.

CREATION

You all probably know the creation account in Genesis, how God made the world in six days and then rested on the seventh – how he made the fish, the birds the animals and of how He made us. Some Christians believe these were six actual days (and there is a lot of science to back up the Bible) and others believe these were six periods of time.

The whole of this creation (or amazing accident if you prefer) seems to have a huge designer label stamped all over it. There are just too many coincidences for it all to have happened purely by chance.

SIR ISAAC NEWTON – (the famous scientist)

Sir Isaac Newton was a Christian. He once built a model of the solar system to help him in his studies. One day one of his atheistic scientist friends asked him who had made the model. Newton replied that no one had. His friend told him not to be ridiculous to which Newton answered `If no one has a problem in realising that a model needs a maker, why was it such a problem when confronted with the real universe.’

What Newton was driving at was that we all take it for granted that buildings, cars, chairs and tin cans all have to be designed and built. However we seem able to believe that the greatest objects, the world and all life just happened

Doesn’t it seem more reasonable to assume that all this order and design happened in our universe because there is one great designer?
