FULFILLING PROPHECY – Matthew 4.12-16

When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali – to fulfil what was said through the prophet Isaiah:

‘Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
    the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
    Galilee of the Gentiles –
the people living in darkness
    have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
    a light has dawned.’

The Bible is full of prophets and prophetesses (women) in the Old Testament and the New Testament. There were many in Old Testament times because that was often how God chose to speak to his people. After Jesus lived on earth, dies on the cross & rose again, we can talk to God through Jesus (see diagram)

Famous examples of prophecies about Jesus are in Isaiah 42.1-4, 53 and Isaiah 61.1-4. Find these in your Bible and read through them How many of these prophecies and other prophecies about him do you think Jesus fulfilled?
