Intro

Hold up a copy of The Bible. Tell everyone what it is.. ‘this is the Bible.’ Then let everyone know what Christians believe the Bible is.. ‘Christians believe the Bible is the word of God.’

Then let them know that The Bible is amazing because it shows that God wants to communicate with you and me. If someone wants to save or store something, they write it down or put it on computer. This is what God did with the Bible.

Is the Bible True and Reliable?

Few people have read the Bible and many of your mates will say that the Bible is full of mistakes and is no longer relevant to today. But the Bible writers claimed (over 3000 times in the Bible) they were writing the Word of God, which was completely true and could be totally trusted!

Hundreds of Bible prophecies have been fulfilled completely. For example, Daniel the prophet predicted in about 538 BC (that means ‘Before Christ’, Daniel 9.24-27) that Christ would come as Israel’s promised Saviour 483 years after the Persian emperor would give the Jews authority to rebuild Jerusalem, which was then in ruins. This was happened hundreds of years later. More than 300 prophecies were fulfilled by Jesus!

Nostradamus is famous for allegedly predicting Hitler and the Nazis. Yet his work means nothing compared to the Bible. Did you know that 95% of his predictions have been totally wrong! Just like fortune tellers, the stars. They are almost always wrong. In fact they get things right as much as you or I could.

Christians believe that only the Bible is completely reliable and true – every time!

Is The Bible Scientific?

Ever heard people say that the Bible is not scientific? They say – you can’t believe the Bible because what is says goes against what the scientists say. Well now you can show them they are wrong – take a look at some of these scientific things the Bible said long before man ‘proved’ them to be true…

– Roundness of the earth (Isaiah 40.22)
– The relationship between rivers and seas (Ecclesiastes 1.7)
– The huge number of stars (Jeremiah 33.22)
– The importance of blood in our life (Leviticus 17.11)

What’s great about the Bible is the way these things are put in simple terms so we can all understand what they mean!

Every word the Bible says is true – unlike a lot of what we hear from many ‘experts’ in many areas of life who often change their minds or who interpret evidence in different ways. Archaeology discoveries are constantly proving what the Bible says.

Does The Bible Do?

Have a mirror and get someone come up and stand in front of it so everyone can see them (or use another youth worker). Say, ‘A mirror reflects what we see. So if we stand in front of the mirror, it shows us in the mirror. Even though most times we don’t always like what we see!’ (Round of applause, sit down, thanks).

Well, Christians believe that the Bible is like a mirror for our life. We believe that when you look and read the Bible with an open heart, that the Bible will tell you about who you are – and what God thinks of you.

A Painting

On a projector, show an image of art – a good one / masterpiece copy..

Say, ‘this is one way of looking at how God sees you.’ God sees you as a canvas, and he has created, shaped and spent time on creating the amazing individual that is you. He has spent hours, choosing the right paints, the right lighting and techniques. You are a work of art.’

Or if you’ve ever seen a piece of knitting or a tapestry, you may know it looks like a mess from the back. That’s often how we see ourselves or how others see us. But when you look at the front, you see what it really looks like. That’s what Christians believe the Bible helps show us.

Read the Bible out loud

Psalm 139.13-16 (The Message):

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God–you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration–what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you. The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.

Conclusion

The thing is that we often don’t see ourselves as God sees us. We don’t think we’re much of a masterpiece. But that is a lie. You are unique, a masterpiece. The Bible tells us this is true..
